Pottery Form w/ Scraffito Drawing

Sgraffito (Italian "to scratch") is a pottery technique of applying a layer of color (I use dark slip) to leather hard clay. Using white clay, when I scratch away the dark layer it reveals the white clay beneath. Images, patterns and negative/positive design comes alive. The technique is similar to my work with linoleum and wood block printing. Here are more of my scraffito vessel forms and "teapots".

My teapots are sculptural with playful proportions.....made of white
stoneware and covered with dark slip.
Lines are incised thru slip to the white clay.
This is the Scraffito technique.
